FireWatch: Red Line earns its color

Just when we thought we didn't need to make a "FireWatch" graphic, another fire erupted on the Red Line, this time near South Station.

The small fire broke out early Saturday afternoon, in an electrical box, on a day when the Red Line was already being bused between Park/Charles and Kendall due to Longfellow Bridge track work. While crews needed access to the tracks, service was bused - first from Broadway, then from JFK/UMass all the way to Kendall. AND it was a busy weekend in the city with several events going on Saturday afternoon.

Those seeking shuttle bus service at Downtown or Park were urged to walk to other points, as the GLBT Pride Parade had several streets near Park Street blocked off at the start of the fire.

Things were back up and running by the evening, but the inconvenience damage was already done.

Not a good day for the MBTA.
