Buck-a-Bus Saga Continues: Megabus Added to the Fray

A few weeks back we reported Greyhound's new BoltBus operation, launching this week from DC to New York, and launching later this Spring between New York and Boston. Their fares start at $1, and cap off at $25.

Not to be outdone, word comes this week that CoachUSA's alter ego, Megabus, will launch Boston to New York service this spring as well, also offering free wifi, AND also starting at $1. Their fares will cap off at $14, however, so even walk up customers can stick it to Fung Wah by saving some quarters on the bus fare (Fung Wah's current fare is $15 one-way).

Coach USA's Megabus is the U.S. twin to European operations of Megabus and Megatrain, also offering the low-fare concept.

Megabus already operates many routes out of Los Angeles and Chicago, and along with the Boston route, several others will spring out of New York to points south and west.

The ball is now in the Chinese carriers' court, as we await their move in this ever-complicated game. Will they lower their fares?

One thing is for sure - you can expect many more New York photos and content at TransitHistory once these buses start rolling!
